Sweet artwork.

That’s one way to describe the craftsmanship that now adorns a business in downtown Lehighton.

Girl Scout Troop 3176, who range from third through fifth grade, recently worked on their business owner and drawing badges.

Led by Megan Sander and Kimberly Nied, the girls spent the past few months building their Girl Scout cookie business.

In addition, the girls learned about small-business ownership from Jennifer Solt-Cerato, owner of Jenny’s Sweets & More.

Solt-Cerato discussed the financial aspects of business, how to meet the needs of a community, location, as well as other factors in entrepreneurship.

Once the work ended, the fun began, as the Scouts were left to peruse the candy shop and choose a candy to draw.

While at Bethany EC Church, Lehighton, which sponsors the troop, she said the girls learned different aspects of drawing techniques.

The girls — consisting of Brownie and Junior Scouts — focused on a small section of the candy or wrapper and sketched their sweets.

Once all the drawings were completed, they transferred the sketches to canvasses and painted their creations.

“As per the drawing badge requirements, every artist needs an audience, so Jenny’s Sweets & More stepped in and offered their front display window for the Scouts Art Show,” parent volunteer Autumn Abelovsky said. “The artwork, which depict Tootsie Rolls, Pixy Stix and more of everyone’s favorite candies, will be on display and up for auction throughout April.”

For a $1 donation, which will aid the troop with badge work, events and supplies, people can bid on their favorite paintings.

At the end of April, names will be drawn from the bids, and the paintings will be given to the lucky winners.

The paintings can be viewed at Jenny’s Sweets & More, 114 S. First St., with bids being taken at the checkout counter.
