Pool passes

Applications are now available for season passes to the H.D. Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Pool. Opening day is tentatively set for 11:30 a.m. on June 1. No season or daily passes will be available that day.

Steeply discounted rates for Tamaqua Area School District residents are made available through the generosity of the John E. Morgan Foundation. Rates have been increased for out-of-district residents.

Applications are available at Tamaqua Borough Hall; the Tamaqua; Fegley’s Mini Mart; the Tamaqua Post Office; and Our Family Mini Mart. Completed applications are to be taken to the borough hall. To ensure having your pass by opening day, have your application completed before April 30.

Borough hall is located at 320 E. Broad St.

Andreas VFW

Andreas VFW Post 5069 will host a breakfast for members at 10 a.m. on April 6 at Knepper’s Inn on Route 309. Members are welcome to bring one guest.

The post will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on April 10 at the West Penn Township Annex building on Municipal Road.

The post is now accepting qualified veterans.

Walker tax collector

Walker Township Tax Collector Diane Malay has announced her office will be closed from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 11. Instead, the office will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 12.

The office is located at 192 Valley Road.

Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met March 24 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 46 members in attendance. President Robert Neifert conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Arrival of Spring.”

Two new members, Jeanne McArdle and Mary Ann Yeneskie, were given warm welcomes, as were returning members Neal Flexer, Jane Tarar, Betty Beltz, Alice Tite, Gloria Gerhart and Jane McLaughlin. Mary Reed was added to the sick list.

A trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre is planned for April 29, while a planning session for the group’s anniversary will be held on May 14.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville and is open to anyone 55 or older.

Cancer telethon

The annual ACS Telethon will take place on April 6 and 7, airing live from Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe. Former ACS Courage Award winners and survivors are welcome to participate.

The Salute to Survivors will be part of the Saturday evening activities.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.

The community Lenten service for April 10 will be held at 7 p.m. at Zion’s.

Calvary Lewistown

The Rev. Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion.

There will be a Sunday evening service, hymnsing and Bible study, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The community Lenten service on April 10 will be held at Zion Church in Lewistown Valley. A hymnsing will be held at 6:45 p.m., with the service set to begin at 7 p.m.

The annual Easter program, presented by the Sunday school classes, will be held at 10:25 a.m. on April 14.

St. Peter’s Union

Sunday worship services at St. Peter’s Church, West Penn, are held at 9 a.m. This week’s service will include Holy Communion.

Also on Sunday, Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m., the junior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m. and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., called to care committee meets at 7 p.m., May newsletter deadline; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m., Confirmation class meets at 5 p.m., midweek Lenten service, 7:30 p.m., St. Peter’s Church; Thursday, senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.

Palm Sunday services will be held at 9 a.m. on April 14 and will include a Joyous Noise Offering.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.

Also on Sunday, Sunday school, First Holy Communion and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m. and the Allegro Bell Choir will perform at the ACS Telethon at noon.

Activities for next week include: Monday, church council meeting at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, midweek Lenten service, 7 p.m., at St. John’s; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.

The bell choir will meet at 8 a.m. on April 14.
