Spring street sweeping to begin in Tamaqua

Published April 05. 2019 02:45PM

It’s that time of year when thoughts turn to spring, which means the Tamaqua street sweeper will be back in business.

The sweeper has been seen in the past few days, making tentative runs to ensure all the parts are working as needed.

The weekly operations will resume the week of April 8. Borough workers will be posting streets, including reminders for residents of the permanently posted streets, to return to the process of moving their vehicles. The permanently posted streets are scheduled for cleaning every Thursday and Friday.

Monday’s schedule will include: Union, from Market to end; Orwigsburg, from Hunter to Coal; South Swatara, from Mahanoy to Van Gelder; and South Nescopec, from Mahanoy to Van Gelder.

On Tuesday, the sweeper will be on Jerome, Washington to Swatara; Lombard, Rowe to Boyle Avenue; Laurel, East End Avenue to end; Spruce, Boyer’s Market to end.

Operations for Wednesday include: Market, Broad to Elm; High, Bowe to Stadium Hill; Clay, Pitt to Washington; Anderson, Lehigh to Lombard.

Thursday’s weekly schedule includes: south side of Broad, former Maff Motors to west borough line; South Railroad, Broad to Spruce; Center, Broad to south Route 309 bridge; North Railroad, Broad to north Route 309 bridge. Next week’s schedule will also include West Elm, Cemetery to North Nescopec; and Van Gelder, Coal to South Nescopec.

Streets permanently posted for Fridays include: north side of Broad, former Maff Motors to west borough line; Mauch Chunk, Broad to Pine; Berwick, Broad to Rowe; Nescopec, Hegarty Avenue to Cottage Avenue; Pine, Cedar to north Route 309 bridge. For April 12, streets will also include Biddle, Greenwood to ballpark; and North Columbia, North to end.

Street sweeping operations will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 5 a.m. on Thursday and Friday.

Parking will be prohibited before and during operations. Vehicles not moved from posted streets at least two hours before the sweeper starts operations are subject to ticketing and towing.

Residents and business owners are welcome to clean their sidewalks the day before their street is cleaned.
