Upgrades made to Walnutport’s main traffic light
Upgrades have been made to Walnutport’s main traffic light.
Borough grant coordinator Michael Wentz announced at Thursday’s borough council workshop session that a whole new control system, new lights, emergency pre-emption, wiring and poles have been installed.
Last month it was stated that upgrades to the borough’s main traffic light would cost more than anticipated after C.M. High Inc. hit a snag while doing the work.
Council had awarded a quote to the Myerstown firm in the amount of $12,150 for upgrades to the traffic light at Best Avenue and Main Street.
Borough engineer Jason Newhard said last month that in doing the work, it was discovered that the northbound Route 145 loop sensor isn’t working.
As a result, Newhard said at that time it would likely cost an additional $5,500.
On Thursday, Wentz said, “they have to fix the two loops,” adding that the borough has to see if the balance of a grant will cover the work.
The borough has been awarded a $25,000 Green Light — GO program 50/50 matching grant.
The control panel is being replaced by an insurance claim.
