Safety hazard to be addressed at Walnutport’s athletic fields

Another problem has developed at the Walnutport Playground Association’s athletic fields on Lincoln Avenue.

This time, there’s a problem with the bathrooms after asphalt dropped, according to Brian Filchner, president of the WPA.

As a result, Filchner told borough council at its workshop session on Thursday there is now a ledge that is a safety hazard.

“I’m just concerned about a trip hazard,” Filchner said.

Councilman Dave Stankovic said the matter needs to be addressed quickly because teams will soon start playing ball.

“It’s got to be done as soon as possible,” Stankovic said.

Last month, a dugout at the WPA’s athletic fields that was damaged by wind was repaired.

Filchner said at that time that wind damage occurred to the dugout on the third base side back in the fall, when heavy winds picked up the roof and separated the blocks of the dugout.

The cost to repair the dugout was $1,800, and Filchner said that the WPA would pay for it.
