Day of prayer

Tamaqua churches will celebrate the National Day of Prayer on May 2, beginning with breakfast at 9 a.m. Breakfast will be served in Founder’s Hall at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St.

Following the meal, participants will move outdoors to the church parking lot, which overlooks the Borough of Tamaqua. The prayer session will be led by various members of the Tamaqua Ministerial Association.

A free will offering of $5 will help defray the cost of breakfast, with any excess proceeds going to the Tamaqua Hunger Walk.

Registration is suggested for breakfast to ensure there is enough food.

Bloodmobile

A Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held on April 17 at the Tamaqua YMCA. Hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m. and walk-ins are welcome.

Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to become a blood donor and help save lives.

STS free rides

The Schuylkill Transportation System is offering Free Fare Fridays on April 12. While registered senior citizens always ride free, fare paying passengers will be able to catch a free ride on any fixed route bus on those days,

Garden helpline

The Penn State Master Gardener program has established a horticulture helpline to answer gardening-related questions from Schuylkill County residents.

Master gardener volunteers will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, with information about trees, flowers, shrubs, lawns, garden soil, vegetables, insects, plant diseases and more. The helpline will be available through the end of September.

Anyone with a question related to lawns, landscapes and gardens will now have their answers just a phone call away. The helpline number is 570-622-4225, ext. 22. Help is also available by email at schuylkillmg@psu.edu or by visiting the Penn State Extension Office at 1202 Ag Center Drive, Pottsville.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met April 4 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 48 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the inspirational reading of “He Lights My Way.”

New member Mary Ann Fisher was welcomed to the group.

Nancy Hess and Mary Reed were added to the sick list.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA, with a few exceptions for holidays. The next meeting will be held on April 11 and will include a pizza party.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Palm Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church.

Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.

Hope in the Mountains meetings are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. This is a Nar-Anon Family Group. For more information, call Mark at 570-952-5098.

The board of trustees will meet at 7 p.m. on April 10.

The Holy Thursday service will be held at 7 p.m. on April 18.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, TYM Remix staff will meet at 11:45 a.m., a scenic sundae drive will begin at 1:30 p.m., women’s study group meets at 7 p.m.

Activities for the next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:15 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m., worship practice is at 8 p.m.; Thursday, young men’s study group meets at 6 p.m., coffee and conversation at 7 p.m., at Hope and Coffee, Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m.; Friday, Good Friday service at the Hometown Nursing Center at 10 a.m.
