Nesquehoning mayor: Clean up after your dogs

Published April 11. 2019 01:00PM

Nesquehoning residents are reminded that they need to clean up after their dogs.

Mayor Sam Kitchko said Wednesday evening during borough council’s special meeting that now that it is getting nice out, the borough is starting to receive complaints of dogs doing their business around town, and the owners failing to clean it up.

“Pick up after your dog,” Kitchko said, adding that animals are also supposed to be on a leash when in town.

According to the borough’s animal ordinance, it is “unlawful for any person to allow excrement from the person’s dog to remain on any public sidewalks, streets, alleys or thoroughfares of the borough of Nesquehoning and it shall be unlawful for any person to fail to remove excrement from the person’s dog from any public sidewalks, streets, alleys or thoroughfares of the borough of Nesquehoning.”

A dog owner who is caught not cleaning up after their dog or being in a park that is posted no dogs can be cited and fined.
