Darryl Arner announces his bid for re-election to Lehighton Borough Council. He is running as a Republican.

He is currently the vice president of the council and serves as chairman of the borough’s Finance and Administration Committee and co-chairman of the Sewer Committee. Arner spearheaded the formation of the Multi-Municipal Sewage Task Force of Lehighton, Weissport and Franklin and Mahoning townships, now known as the Central Carbon Municipal Authority. This brought about much economic growth to the area.

He formed the “Buy-A-Brick” fundraiser to raise the needed money to complete the Lehighton Recreation Center which today houses the Senior Nutrition Center as well as many athletic activities, Youth Center, and a meeting place for many civic groups and organizations. He has served on the Inaugural Board of Directors of the Carbon County United Way, and as a member of the Carbon County Industrial Development Corporation, president of the Lehighton Area Chamber of Commerce, Carbon Builders Expo and the Board of the Lehighton Area Memorial Library, where he formed the auxiliary group known as “Friends of the Library.”

He was the chairman of the chamber’s annual Art in the Park Festival for several years.

He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he has served on the congregational council, communion assistant, lay-reader, and the church’s finance committee.

Born and raised in Lehighton, Arner graduated from Moravian College. He is the son of the late “Wally” and Margaret Arner.
