Allentown man charged with DUI, drug possession
An Allentown man has been charged with DUI and drug possession following a traffic stop in Palmerton.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman Dane O’Brien of the Palmerton Borough Police Department:
At 12:45 a.m. Feb. 6, O’Brien was on patrol in the area of Mauch Chunk Road and Franklin Avenue when he saw a silver Nissan Altima traveling toward Route 248 on Mauch Chunk Road.
The vehicle merged onto the 248 inbound ramp after not coming to a complete stop for a red light at the intersection of Mauch Chunk Road and Delaware Avenue.
O’Brien stopped the car. He said the driver, Tyler Specht, 23, had blood shot, glassy eyes and smelled like alcohol. Specht failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol.
Police also found a multicolor glass pipe containing burned, green vegetable matter located inside the center console.
Specht refused a blood test. Specht faces charges on two counts of DUI, and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic citations.
He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing May 29 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
