Foghat to rock Penn’s Peak stage

Foghat, the internationally known “Kings of Boogie Rock,” will be rocking the Penn’s Peak stage with Savoy Brown and Earl & The Agitators at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Having formed in 1971 in London, when Dave Peverett and Roger Earl left Savoy Brown, Foghat has been astounding audiences of all ages for decades. Their true-to-classic blues/hard-rock/boogie sound with their signature use of the slide guitar exemplifies why the band’s nonstop touring has continuously left the masses awe-struck.

Foghat has released over 20 albums throughout the years and has achieved eight gold records, one platinum record and one double platinum record. In June 2016, the band released a new studio album titled “Under the Influence” and then released a live album in June 2017 titled “Live at the Belly Up.” The band also released a live DVD in 2018.

Current members include Roger Earl, the only original member of Foghat, on drums, Bryan Bassett on lead guitar, Charlie Huhn on lead vocals and rhythm guitar and Rodney O’Quinn on bass guitar.

All members of the band have exhibited extraordinary rock talent throughout the entirety of their careers, both with Foghat and former bands. Huhn has played with Ted Nugent, Gary Moore & Humble Pie, Bassett has played with Wild Cherry and Molly Hatchet and O’Quinn has played with the Pat Travers band.

According to Bassett, who joined Foghat in 1999 and played with Lonesome Dave’s Foghat from 1989-1992, attending fans can expect to hear all the classics including “Fool for the City,” “I Just Want to Make Love to You,” and his favorite to perform, “Slow Ride.”

“We always play the hits for those who want to hear them,” he said.

Bassett also said the band will be performing some blues covers including “It Hurts Me Too” by the Grateful Dead.

Born in Pittsburgh, it is no wonder Bassett said he loves playing in Pennsylvania. He explained that in the 1970s and 1980s, he and the local bands he played with toured the entire tri-state area from Philadelphia all the way to Buffalo, New York.

Bassett described Penn’s Peak as “one of (Foghat’s) favorite venues … we look forward to it every time.”

The incredible sound emanating from this incredibly impressive rock-legend group is not the only reason the band has stayed together and provided nonstop tours for so long, minus some ups and downs throughout the years.

“We’re such good friends, we’re like a family now after all these years,” said Bassett.

“Getting to travel the country, and the world really, and perform with your friends is just a wonderful way to have a musical life.”

From the original loyal fans showing love since the 1970s to the younger fans who know every word and every chord from playing “Slow Ride” on Guitar Hero throughout their childhoods, everyone can come out to enjoy some classic, Foghat jams.

Fans will be able to meet the band and have merchandise signed following the show, if time permits.
