Tamaqua man facing charges

Published November 16. 2016 02:45PM

Tamaqua police picked up Matthew M. Hartranft, 32, of Coal Street, Tamaqua, on outstanding warrants on Nov. 6.

Officers were called to Coal Street at 7:48 p.m. for a disturbance. They found Hartranft in the street, yelling at a juvenile. When told there were warrants for his arrest, Hartranft became uncooperative, refusing to place his hands behind his back and trying to run away. He was stopped and began struggling with the officer, who used force to take him to the ground and handcuffed him.

Hartranft was taken to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville and arraigned on the warrant charges, which included simple assault, harassment and making terroristic threats from an Aug. 22 incident. Bail was set at $30,000 straight cash, which he was unable to post.

He also faces charges of resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct from the Nov. 6 incident.
