Driver cited after Schuylkill crash

A Luzerne County driver was cited following a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 4:07 p.m. Sunday along Route 61 in Blythe Township.

State police at Frackville said Larson H. Velez, 25, of Hazleton, was driving a 2008 Toyota Corolla northbound about 100 feet north of the medial crossover. The road was wet at the time and the Toyota had severely balding tires, troopers said. Due to the low tire tread, the Toyota began to slide on the wet road surface, causing Velez to lose control. The car crossed over the travel lane, went onto the west side berm and traveled up a slight embankment.

The Toyota rolled over and came to rest on its roof behind the guide rail.

Velez was not injured. The Toyota was towed. Troopers cited Velez for tire equipment and traction surfaces.
