You shouldn't need to rescue someone breaking the law. That's like if I get into someone's backyard despite "private property" signs, and they hold me at gunpoint, I should be able to call the police on the property owner for being held hostage.
If you want to risk your life on a dangerous trail, then do it. Don't make it emergency responders problem if you get yourself in trouble. By the way, about overdosing...
Nice analogy.
Realize that the same mentality that is being rescued is also arriving by auto in droves to take their turn trespassing. Imagine you just spent 3 or 4 hours lugging someone down from the falls only to be blocked from handing off the patient to EMS or moving your fire truck to go home because curious visitors from out of the area have decided that having a convenient place to park their car is more important than the rescue.
