Lansford music in park starts second half of season Sunday
The “Music in the Park” program held in Lansford starts its second half of the season on Sunday.
The entertainment schedule for the sixth annual summer concert program is set.
The concerts are held in the Kennedy Park at the Gazebo located off Route 209 at the west end of the borough across from the Panther Valley football stadium. The concerts are every Sunday and free of charge starting at 6 p.m.
Refreshments will be sold at the concession stand with all proceeds from sales benefiting the revitalization of the park.
The Lansford Alive committee, which sponsors the concerts, is a nonprofit, all-volunteer group headed by Chairwomen Irma Leibensperger and Marie Ondrus.
During the first half of the season three concerts had to be canceled due to inclement weather and last week due to the extreme heat.
All of the improvements done at the park are accomplished through the proceeds generated from the sales at the concession stand, public donations as well as from the borough.
The committee recognizes the following people who have donated their time in helping with the park restoration. Tony Paul, of Summit Hill, retired electrician, for updating the electric system; Matt Dunn, of Lansford, local tree surgeon, for removing all of the dead or decaying trees along with their stumps; and borough employees, for the care of the lawn maintenance and general upkeep of the park.
The committee’s future plans include replacing the 20-year-old roof on the gazebo; replacing and repairing all of the missing and broken struts in the banister and giving the entire Gazebo a fresh coat of paint.
All this is accomplished by the donations made to the committee and the patronizing of the concert series and purchasing from the concession stand.
The public is reminded to bring a lawn chair or a blanket for their personal comfort at the concerts.
The schedule includes:
July 28, The Boys Upstairs, Pottsville, music of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s and current hits; Aug. 4, Crossroad Duo, Tamaqua, southern country blues and folk; Aug. 11, Munoz Brothers, Philadelphia, Ivan and Damian, telethon house band, British invasion ’50s and ’60s; Aug. 18, Don and Donna Nye, Port Carbon, founding members of the Kings and Queens band, classic rock, country and oldies; and Aug. 25, Richie Molinaro and Mr. Lou, Hazleton, party band with legendary rock ’n’ roll.
