A look back: July 25, 1977

The drive for funds to purchase a new ambulance for the Weatherly area resulted in $19,038.07 being collected.

Gary D. Kunkle, treasurer of the Greater Weatherly Area Community Ambulance, announced the total.

He said the largest contributors were the Greater Weatherly Community Chest and the Weatherly Area Homecoming Association, each of which gave $2,500. Another check for $2,000 will be presented by the homecoming group after this month, he said.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Citizens Fire Company gave over $800 and the Hazleton Community Ambulance Association contributed $500, Kunkle noted.
