Dr. John Evans of Nesquehoning has assumed his duties as assistant chief surgeon at the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton.

According to the hospital board of directors, he is on 24-hour call and is “well-qualified and highly recommended for the position.”

Dr. Evans, who plans to open an office of medicine in Carbon County, received his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Georgetown Medical Center, Washington, D.C., and was affiliated with the District of Columbia General Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital, both in Washington, D.C., from 1957 to this year.

He is married to the former Patricia Moore.
