A look back: July 30, 1964

The residents of Jim Thorpe will have an opportunity to vote on the change of the corporate name of the Borough of Jim Thorpe back to the original title of Mauch Chunk.

Judge Albert Heimbach in Carbon County Court this morning signed an order directing the Carbon County Board of Elections to frame the proper question for the general election ballot on Nov. 3.

The order was in response to a petition signed by 590 registered voters of the community who requested the vote. The petitioner was John G. Otto, 223 W. Broadway, who was joined by Howell Williams, Paul Acker and Al Weiksner in being instrumental in pursuing reversal of the name change 10 years ago.
