President Judge Roger N. Nanovic imposed sentences on Thursday afternoon in Carbon County court on defendants who previously pleaded to driving under the influence and other criminal charges.

William Jones, 61, of Effort, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $300 and one-year license suspension on a DUI count.

He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge on June 2, 2018.

He will serve the prison term on consecutive weekends of two days, two days and one day, beginning Aug. 2 at 10 a.m.

Thomas Mitchell McQueen, 45, of Pen Argyl, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail on a DUI charge, pay a fine of $1,000 and one-year license suspension. On a charge of driving under suspension — DUI related, he was sentenced to serve 60 days in jail and pay a fine of $500 with the terms running concurrently. He was given credit for 73 days already served and paroled.

He arrested on July 21, 2018, by Franklin Township police along Interchange Road while operating a motorcycle. He refused a test.

He is currently an inmate in the state correctional institution on a parole violation and said he had nine more weeks to serve.

Caleb Klitsch, 19, Palmerton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail on a DUI charge and ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 and one-year license suspension.

He was arrested on July 26, 2018, by Palmerton police in the 100 block of Delaware Avenue. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

He will begin serving the prison term at 11 a.m. on Aug. 9.

Crystal Renee Whildin, 37, of Nesquehoning, was placed on probation for six months on a retail theft charge. She was arrested on Sept. 17, 2018, by Mahoning Township police for an incident at the Walmart store.

Ashley Marie Weirich, 24, of Tamaqua, entered guilty pleas in two pending cases.

She pleaded to two counts of possession of a controlled substance. She was arrested on Sept. 26, 2018, by Lansford police following a traffic stop along West Patterson Street. She was a rear-seat passenger in the vehicle and found with methamphetamine. She was arrested on Sept. 11, 2018, again in Lansford, following another traffic stop along Pine Street. She was a passenger in the vehicle and found with heroin.

Nanovic accepted the pleas.

Weirich was also before the court to be sentenced in two other cases in which she previously entered guilty pleas.

Nanovic deferred sentencing on all four cases so Weirich can apply for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program — house arrest.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
