The Schuylkill County Prison Board held a special meeting on Friday, sitting for four hours to listen to six architectural firms make presentations on the costs for remodeling or rebuilding the county jail.

Five of the plans presented called for renovations to the existing jail while one firm, Levkulic and Bosak, Pottsville, dusted off plans it presented to the county 20 years ago to build the prison adjoining the western end of the courthouse and turning the old prison into a Molly Maguire Museum.

The cost data presented to the board showed renovating the existing prison would cost from a low of $3 million to a high of $5.5 million, while the highest price for a new building was listed at $7 million.
