NY woman drowns in Poconos
A New York woman drowned in the Poconos Tuesday afternoon.
Pocono Mountain Regional Police responded to Arrowhead Lakes at 2:16 p.m. for a report of a possible drowning.
Police spoke with witnesses who reported that a woman was swimming when she suddenly yelled for help and went under the water.
The woman was observed several hundred feet out in the water and was pulled out by a rescue boat.
She was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley where she was pronounced dead. The victim was identified as 73-year-old Marianna Simkhovich, a resident of Brooklyn, New York. Police were assisted by Tobyhanna Township Fire Department, Coolbaugh Township Fire Department,Thornhurst Fire Department, and Pocono Mountain Regional EMS.
