A look back: Aug. 24, 1982

Miss Beth Alison Begel, daughter of Bruce and Kay Begel of Franklin Street, Weissport, emerged as the 1982 Miss Carbon County Pageant queen Monday night as the Carbon County Fair formally opened in Lehighton.

Born Nov. 30, 1964, the 17-year-old Lehighton Area High School graduate plans to attend Widener University to study nursing.

First runner-up honors went to Lynette Roberts, 18, daughter of David and Marian Roberts, South Sixth Street, Lehighton, while Lisa Ockenhouse, 16, daughter of Richard and Mary Ockenhouse, Flagstaff Mountain, Jim Thorpe, claimed second runner-up honors and was also named Miss Congeniality by the 19 other contestants.
