A look back: Aug. 30, 1996
The restoration of the Tamaqua train station received another boost with the latest announcement of a $100,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
Dr. Brent Glass, executive director of the commission, visited the town to announce Tamaqua was chosen as one of the recipients of the commission’s Keystone Historic Preservation Grants.
The grant will be used to replace 32 windows and four doors at the station, said Ken Smulligan, president of the Tamaqua Save Our Station Organization.
Previously, the borough received grants of $33,000 and $25,000 to make other repairs to the station.
