A look back: Sept. 3, 1961
Louise Farrell of Jim Thorpe was crowned Miss Carbon County during the third annual beauty pageant held at the Carbon County Fair.
Miss Farrell, a pretty, petite blonde, was exotic in her gown of coral net; lovely in her white swimsuit; and unique in her talent, presenting an original monologue on the theme “what shall I use for my talent,” which ended in a child’s “good night prayer.” She was crowned by Miss Charlene Frehulfer, Miss Carbon County of 1960.
Miss Betty Lou Black, of Summit Hill, was the runner-up.
Miss Farrell placed first in the evening gown division; Paulette Pohlod, of Lansford, won the swimsuit division; Eleanor Hydock, of Lansford, placed first in the talent competition; and Mary Ann Marsden, of Nesquehoning, was selected Miss Personality.
