PVSD events
The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO book fair continues for the rest of this week.
The Pleasant Valley High School Open House is happening from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Administration Building.
The phone lines open for kindergarten registration for the 2020-21 school year.
The PVES PTO meeting is at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The PVMS PTO meeting is set for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 18.
Chestnuthill Seniors
Pain management with Rachael Wydra is Friday’s special happening at the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville at 10:30 a.m.
The lunches available for ordering include Friday’s light meal of tuna salad, marinated vegetable salad, pineapple tidbits, Lorna Doone cookies and whole wheat bread.
The regular meal for this day is slated to be baked ziti, carrots, spinach, whole grain bread and an apple.
The light meal for next Wednesday is dilled turkey salad, pea salad, fruit cocktail, rice pudding and whole wheat bread.
And Wednesday’s regular meal is Swedish meatballs over egg noodles, Scandinavian blend, collard greens and pineapple.
Attendees are reminded to order their respective meals by 11 a.m. the day before at either 570-420-3737 or 570-242-6770.
The program for next Wednesday is Current Events.
Little League board
The West End Little League Board of Directors meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. This meeting is a closed meeting.
The general meeting, open to all, is the following week at the same time and place.
Altar & Rosary
The Altar & Rosary Society at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will meet in the chapel at noon on Friday.
Bike Night
Post 927’s Pavilion in Gilbert is the place for a bike night on Friday, sponsored by the Legion Riders of Post 927, beginning at 5 p.m.
All bikes are welcome. Burgers, hot dogs, wings, a cash bar, a drawing and a Best Bike contest are part of the evening.
Knobby Whistlers, a classic rock band, will entertain.
The event is open to all.

McMichaels breakfast
The donation-only breakfast is back at McMichaels UMC. It will be served from 8 to 10 a.m. this Saturday. The worship hour will now begin at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday, and the evening service is at 5 p.m.
Pantry open
The Effort UMC Supplemental Food Resource Center will be open from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday.

Free program
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a free Lilliana’s Nature Discovery area exploration for Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon to create some land art.
One’s work can be inspired by the colors of the leaves or the natural geometry of a pinecone. Natural materials will be used in this expression of creativity.
Afterward, plan to stay to discover the other elements that the Lilliana’s Nature Discovery area has to offer including a canoe, tunnel, xylophone, talking tubes and much more. Dress appropriately and wear appropriate footwear because this activity will take place outside.

Eldred Founder’s Day
Open House & Eldred Founder’s will be hosted at Frantz School at 485 Church Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Families that established the town of Kunkletown and helped it grow will be honored along with their descendants and new arrivals.
The open house is being done in cooperation with Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, Phillipsburg Railroad Historians, St. Matthew’s Church, Grundsau Lodsch (Pennsylvania Dutch Groundhog Lodge), Eldred Township Veterans Commission, Eldred Township Historical Society, Eldred Community Center, Eldred Township Board of Supervisors, and Aquashicola Watershed Conservancy.

Moon bog walk
On Saturday the Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers a time to explore the bog under the light of a full moon. The walk begins at 6:30 p.m. Participants should bring a flashlight and wear appropriate footwear.
There is a cost, and preregistration is required.
To preregister, call the E.E. Center at 570-629-3061, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and most Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Fellowship breakfast
Effort UMC begins the fellowship breakfasts anew this Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. It is on the third Sunday this month, not the second Sunday as it normally is.
Also beginning anew this Sunday is the nursery for tiny tots.
And Body Building for children who will be age 3 on or before Sept. 1; and Sunday school, for pre-teens and children who will be age 9 on or before Sept. 1, and teens and children who will be age 12 on or before Sept. 1 will also begin.
Classes are held during the 11 a.m. services.
Teen Challenge visit
St. Peter’s United Methodist Church is hosting Teen Challenge on Sunday to hear the testimonies and music of Teen Challenge at the 10 a.m. service.
Overcomers of all ages will provide special musical selections throughout the worship hour, affirming God’s spirit in helping to overcome addictions.
The group comes from the Rehrersburg area to share life transformation stories.
Everyone coming for the service is invited to stay for the coffee hour fellowship after the service.
PVEN guest visits
When the Western Pocono Women’s Club meets at 7 p.m. Monday at Effort UMC, the guest speaker will be Hope Smith, director of the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.
The club is celebrating its blue ribbon win in the Group Exhibit building at the West End Fair depicting the theme: We are Beary Special in our Community.
In addition, the group earned a red ribbon for the back of its stand at the fair.
Shawl ministries
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has a group that gathers in the Teen Room the second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon to create prayer shawls that are given to families in need of healing and hope.
Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl ministry will again meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to knit or crochet their beautiful items that give the recipients a tangible proof that folks care for them in time of duress and distress.
VALOR Meeting
A VALOR Peer to Peer meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Post 927 main hall in Gilbert. It is open to all Post and non-Post veterans and families.

Sub vets meet
The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Pocono Base, meet regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at the Wilson Fisher American Legion, Post 413, Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines. It is a local chapter of the national organization U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. Submarine veterans from all eras are encouraged to join. This month’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 18.

Banned books
The Western Pocono Community Library will be hosting a Banned Books Week from Sept. 22-28, with a discussion of Ray Bradbury’s work “Fahrenheit 451” at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25.
Folks are invited to check the library’s selection of banned books and join the discussion about his work.
Precious junk sale
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is holding a Precious Junk sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 and Sept. 28.
Cleanup day set
Eldred Township has announced its cleanup day for Sept. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Vendors wanted
The West End Park and Open Space Commission will have a craft/gift fair at the Chestnuthill Park on Route 715 Brodheadsville from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 16.
There will be crafts, gifts, art, direct sellers and door prizes.
