The Carbon County Area Vocational-Technical School started the school year with 331 students, a 12% increase over last year’s enrollment, it was reported at last night’s vo-tech operating committee meeting.
Last year, the school graduated only 87 students, but this year picked up 124 sophomores to go with its 104 juniors and 103 seniors.
Among this year’s students are 91 from the Palmerton School District, 84 from Lehighton, 76 from Jim Thorpe, 51 from Panther Valley and 29 from Weatherly. In addition, the CCAVTS has seven half-time students whose academic classes are provided by the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit, but take their technical classes at the vo-tech school.
