A look back: Sept. 19, 1997

The Palmerton Borough Council members took time out of their busy schedule to recognize two outstanding citizens, Joseph Rogowitz and Larue Smith, with special commendations awarded by Mayor Peter Delich.

Rogowitz was recognized for his prompt response in providing emergency care to a bicyclist who had collided with a car and for having notified the communications center of the need for a MedEvac response, thereby shortening the arrival time of the unit to transport the injured person to the hospital.

Smith’s recognition was due to her having found a bank envelope containing $600 in cash in the 400 block of Delaware Avenue and turning it over to police, who located a senior citizen who had lost it.
