Pow wow held at Mauch Chunk Lake Park
Members of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania hosted a pow wow on Sunday at Mauch Chunk Lake Park during which members were dressed in Native American attire. Several hundred people attended the event during which there were ceremonial dances, religious rituals and a salute to veterans. It was one of two special events held by the Lenape Nation during the weekend. On Saturday, representatives traveled the route of the Walking Purchase, a land grab made by the sons of William Penn in 1837. The Lenape members concluded the event at the Bond Farm along Route 903, where the Walking Purchase claim ended. RON GOWER/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
