A look back: Sept. 27, 1988
Lehighton Borough Council voted to retain the services of its borough manager last evening, following a lengthy discussion in executive session.
President Wilbur Bauchspies asked a vote be taken to retain Edward Deichmeister, who was retained over protests of Councilman Barry Bossard, who was one of three voting against the motion. The others were William Noll and Grant Hunsicker.
Voting with Bauchspies to keep Deichmeister on the job were Terry Stein, Lee Getz and Robert Moser.
The manager was on a six-month probationary period that ran out on Sept. 12.
