Tamaqua, Jim Thorpe at
Pine Grove Invitational
Grace Stegermerten finished first overall to lead the Tamaqua girls to the team championship of the Pine Grove Invitational. The Raiders’ Frances Kabana was second in the girls race.
Brandon Fogarty’s third-place finish paced the Blue Raider boys.
For Jim Thorpe, Kaitlyn Bos placed eighth in the girls race and James Schwartz took 11th in the boys race.
BOYS SOCCER
Tamaqua-North Schuylkill
Tamaqua cruised to a 6-0 win over North Schuylkill in Schuylkill League action.
Michael Shlanta scored a pair of goals to lead the Raiders, while Ian Davis, Nathan Noftz, Tyler Steigerwalt and Mateo Gomez all scored once.
Noftz, who scored his goal on a free kick, also had five saves in net to record the shutout for the Blue Raiders.
Lehighton-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe’s Thor Huth scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead his team to a 4-0 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.
Alex Putt scored the Olympians’ other goal and assisted on one, while Marc Waslesyn and Chris Condly both added assists.
Thorpe’s Jacob Geiser stopped eight shots in goal to pick up the shutout, while his counterpart, Randy Bongiorno had 17 saves for the Indians.
Northwestern-Catasauqua
Northwestern cruised to an easy 7-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.
Josh Zellner’s hat trick paced the Tigers, while Ryan Baker, Colin Coffield, Seth Brady and Zach Rosamalia all scored once. Jeff Garcia had three assists and Baker added one.
GIRLS SOCCER
Tamaqua-Palmerton
Tamaqua defeated Palmerton, 3-0, in non-league action.
Emma Kuczynski scored twice and added an assist for the Raiders, who have won four straight. Kate Rudy chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Baylee Reinhardt added a fifth shutout to her resume, stopping eight shots on goal for the winners, who qualified for the district tournament with the victory.
Meanwhile, for the Bombers, Megan Green collected 22 saves in the loss.
FIELD HOCKEY
Northwestern-Salisbury
Northwestern scored early and often to defeat Colonial League foe Salisbury, 7-1.
Lauren Schellhamer tallied a hat trick and added a pair of assists for a strong all-around game for the Tigers. Greenleigh McGeehee scored a pair of goals and had an assist, while Tess Ledeboer also had a pair of scores. Brynn Balliet added an assist.
Lehighton-Catasauqua
Lehighton managed a 6-0 shutout win over non-league opponent Catasauqua.
Kaleena Craig scored a hat trick for the winners, while Brooke Schleicher had a goal and an assist. The Tribe’s other goals were scored by Alison Miller and Alicia Shaffer. Karissa Hough, Adrianna Hinkle and Madison Brown all added assists.
Ashley Wojton had six saves in recording the shutout for Lehighton, which outshot the Rough Riders 16-6.

Pottsville-Tamaqua
Pottsville cruised to a 5-0 win over Tamaqua.
The hardest battle came at number two singles, where the Raiders’ Sabrina Pratt dropped a tight 7-5, 6-3 decision.

Panther Vy.-Northwestern
Panther Valley took a three-set win over non-league opponent Northwestern, 25-19, 25-10, 25-15.
Jenna Dubosky led the Panthers with four aces, nine kills and 13 assists. Erika Dubosky (seven aces, six kills, three digs) and Natalie White (seven kills, four blocks) also contributed to the victory.
Pine Grove-Tamaqua
Pine Grove breezed to a 25-5, 25-5, 25-6 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.
