Man charged in attempted motorcycle theft
A Stroudsburg man has been charged with burglary after he attempted to steal a motorcycle from the place he was staying.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Matthew Lento of the state police at Lehighton barracks:
At around 2:11 p.m. Aug. 22, Lento was dispatched to a home in the 2100 block of James Way, Saylorsburg, for a report of a burglary.
Lento spoke with the homeowner, who said that Matthew Valot, 25, arrived at his home on Aug. 21 and needed a place to stay.
The victim’s daughter knew Valot from high school and agreed to let him sleep on the front porch of her residence. She told him to leave the following morning.
The residence was locked to prevent Valot from entering.
At 1 p.m., one of the residents heard the front door shut. He looked out the front window and saw Valot eating a sandwich on the front porch, and saw that his bread was gone.
The resident looked out of the window and saw Valot halfway down his driveway picking up the other victim’s green Kawasaki 636 motorcycle that was tipped over in the driveway.
The resident saw his garage door was open, confronted Valot in his driveway and told him to put the motorcycle back.
Valot said he just wanted to take for a test ride. Valot helped the resident push the motorcycle back into the garage and then walked away from the residence.
Valot faces charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking or disposition and criminal mischief.
He is incarcerated in the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 4 before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
