During a workshop meeting Wednesday, the Schuylkill County Commissioners opened bids for a Community Development Block Grant stormwater project in McAdoo. Bids will be reviewed and awarded at a later date.

The bidders were: Mar-Allen Concrete Products, Ephrata, $177,647; Minichi Inc., Dupont, $141,000; Lehigh Asphalt Paving & Construction, Tamaqua, $132,810; Heim Construction Company Inc., Orwigsburg, $124,622; and Mohawk Contracting and Development, Allentown, $98,151.

Naftzinger Auto Wrecking, Auburn, was the lone bidder for surplus Schuylkill Transportation System vehicles. The company bid $429 each for seven E450 CDL vans and $327 each for four 35-foot buses.

In other action, the commissioners:

Approved an ordinance for intergovernmental cooperation by Schuylkill County in BHARP, the Behavioral Health Alliance of Rural Pennsylvania. By participating, the county joins 23 other counties in order to pool finances to get mental health and developmental services. BHARP contracts with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, and serves as the primary contractor for participating counties.

In the engineering department, terminated contracts with Ludgate Engineering and OTM LLC Engineering, firms that provided engineering and surveying surfaces for plan review and inspection for the county Planning Commission. The county will continue to use WJP Engineers and will use Mack Engineering as an alternate only when submitted plans present a conflict with WJP.

The commissioners also accepted two resignations from the County Planning Commission. Michael Vigoda, of Pottsville, who had to resign due to a work promotion; and James Setlock, of Orwigsburg, who had served on the board for more than 30 years.
