A look back: Oct. 9, 1972
Fire Chief Norman Tippett of Lansford will receive the Distinguished Citizens Service Award from the Babinetz-Horowski AMVETS Post 83 of Lansford.
In making the announcement, Commander John Kupec said the choice was unanimous, saying Tippett “has courageously fought not only fire, but for excellence from the men in his department.”
The award, dormant for 10 years, is a program the local service organization has rededicated itself to renew.
Tippett joined the American Fire Department in 1926 and was named fire chief in 1952. He has also been secretary of the company’s Firemen’s Relied Fund for the past 20 years and secretary of the fire company since 1936.
