Schuylkill commissioners award contracts
The Schuylkill County Commissioners have chosen a snow removal company, Schuylkill Paving Inc., of Schuylkill Haven. The board took the action during a workshop meeting Wednesday.
Schuylkill Paving will be responsible for snowplowing and cindering on county-owned lots and properties, as well as hauling snow away. The company bid $125 per hour each for two dump trucks with snowplow and spreader, and $125 per hour for one pickup with snowplow. The company also bid $150 per hour for a 4-wheel drive loader.
For hauling snow, the company bid $125 per hour for a tri-axle truck and $200 per hour for a bucket loader. Materials costs are $75 per ton for anti-skid material, $140 per ton for anti-skid salt mix and $165 per ton for salt.
In other action, the commissioners:
Approved submission of a renewal package for self-insurance status with the state Department of Labor and Industry, Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. The commissioners credited the county’s safety committee for its proactive work, which keeps down claims, getting insurance rate discounts for the county.
Approved the lease/purchase of two Ford 2020 police interceptor SUVs for the Juvenile Justice Department at a total cost of $72,012, which include an $8,000 down payment and annual lease payments of $17,632 for four years. There will be no expense to the county — funds came from administration fees from state grants and from Act 148 mileage reimbursements. The vehicles will be from Kovatch Ford Inc., Nesquehoning, through the COSTARS contract.
Awarded a $17,950 contract to Kass Contracting, Shenandoah, for a demolition project at 13-14 Trenton St., Delano Township.
Approved the sale of surplus vehicles to the sole bidder, Naftzinger Wrecking, Auburn. The company will pay $4,311 for 11 used vans and buses.
