State police warn of phone scam in Monroe

Recently, victims have reported to multiple police departments within Monroe County that they have received phone calls with an automated message stating it was the “Pennsylvania State Police” and that their Social Security number was compromised. The phone number associated with these calls is 570-839-7701, which is the old phone number to the Swiftwater barracks but is no longer associated with the state police.

The state police would like the community to be aware that, “we never ask for sensitive information over the phone, and while conducting investigations, face to face interviews is how we obtain information.”

Anyone who feels they may be a victim of this scam, should contact their local police department to file a report.
