Police investigate DUI incidents
State police at the Lehighton barracks said the driver of a Hyundai vehicle at East Lizard Creek and South Kittatinny roads in East Penn Township is facing drug possession and DUI charges.
Police stopped the vehicle at 4:51 p.m. Oct. 8 after the driver committed a traffic violation.
Police said they detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and a search of the vehicle resulted in police finding a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Police said the driver appeared to be impaired and was taken into custody for driving under the influence of drugs.
Police did not identify the driver.
In another incident, a driver is facing a charge of DUI following an incident that occurred at 8:23 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Interchange Road and Hemlock Street in Franklin Township.
Police said Tiffany Shopov, 37, of Lehighton, was stopped for vehicle code violations. She was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and drug possession, troopers said.
