2019 general election: Races in Jim Thorpe and Penn Forest highlight municipal ballots in that region
There are two competitive municipal races to be decided in the Jim Thorpe area in the General Election of 2019 that will be held on Nov. 5.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in each of the 51 election precincts in the county.
The contested races are in Jim Thorpe Borough and Penn Forest Township. There are no challenged races in Kidder Township.
Jim Thorpe
The Jim Thorpe race features three Democrats and three Republicans running for three four-year terms on the borough council.
The Democrats are incumbents Kyle J. Sheckler and Jay T. Miller and newcomer Michael J. Yeastedt. The Republican candidates are incumbent John T. McGuire, Mary Shorten and Robert C. Schaninger.
Penn Forest Township
Two Democrats and two Republicans are aspiring to two six-year terms on the Penn Forest Township Board of Supervisors.
The Democrats are Sherry Knappenberger and Roger L. Meckes, who are challenged by Republicans Scott Lignore and Christian Bartulovich.
The township voters are also scheduled to elect two auditors, one for a six-year term and the other for a two-year term, but there are no candidates for either office.
Kidder Township
Two candidates running for supervisors’ positions in Kidder Township are unopposed.
Republican Thomas “Bing” LaFond is the lone candidate for a six-year term that is available, while Louis Pantages is running for the four-term that is up for grabs. He appears on both the Democratic and Republican ballots.
There are no candidates for the six-year term on the board of auditors that is slated to be filled by the electorate.
