A look back: Nov. 5, 1957

Published November 05. 2019 11:45AM

A 95-foot well on the property of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Gibbon, Penn Forest Township, is dry for the first time in the 10 years they have been residents there.

Other wells in the township, while still supplying water, are dangerously low, attesting to the severity of the summer’s drought. While the recent rains did much to relieve the parched condition of the earth, it was not of sufficient volume to replenish wells.

The well at the residence of Jack Kattner has been dry since July, and the Lawrence Perrin well in Germantown, the site of the former Armbruster farm and always the source of a good and plentiful supply of water, went out this summer for the first time in a hundred years, making it necessary for Mr. Perrin to drill a new well.
