Nesquehoning council

Nesquehoning Borough Council, on Wednesday, discussed or acted upon the following items:

• Approved Richard Stromelo’s request to fill the vacancy on the borough planning commission.

• Councilwoman Mary Fox reported that she and Councilman Michael Radocha met with Eastern Environmental regarding the liquidated damages for the rehabilitation project of wastewater treatment plant unit 2. She said the proposal on the table would be to take off $30,759.74 between waiving additional fees and a portion of the liquidated damages, as well as add an additional year to the paint warranty on the inside of the tank. No formal action on approving the offer was taken until all final costs are received.

• The next Recreation Commission meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2 in the recreation center.

• The annual Nesquehoning Children’s Christmas Party will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 15.

• The borough is planning a Community Day for sometime next summer that would be similar to National Night Out. It would include a family event to learn about how the borough operates and meet the people who work for the borough. Additional details will be released next year.

• The borough increased the fire company disbursement that will be split among the three companies from $7,500 to $12,000 for 2020.

• The borough reminds homeowners and renters that moving permits to move in and out of Nesquehoning are required. If it is discovered that a person moved in or out of the borough without obtained a moving permit, which costs $10, the person can be fined.

• Approved hiring Sergio Zenon as a part-time crossing guard at the standard rate.
