LV man sentenced for firebombing police
EASTON (AP) — A man accused of throwing incendiary devices at police officers during a standoff was sentenced Tuesday to more than 18 years in state prison.
Jeffrey Folkner, 28, of Easton, was convicted of four counts of aggravated assault in the wake of a July 2018 standoff that began when police responded to a domestic dispute.
Authorities have said Folkner lobbed gas-filled beer bottles stuffed with flaming rags that ignited a nearby store and scorched a patrol car. They also alleged that he fired a shotgun and walked toward officers armed with a machete before he was disarmed.
Folkner had insisted he was suicidal, was trying to provoke officers into killing him and didn’t intended to harm anyone but himself.
He apologized in court Tuesday.
“I made terrible decision that night and I wish it was something I could take back. Unfortunately, I can’t,” Folkner said, adding, “My drinking was out of control.”
