Carbon commissioners want to move forward
Working together to efficiently operate the county and make decisions to move Carbon County forward are a few of the challenges that the new board of Carbon County Commissioners will face in 2020.
During the annual swearing-in ceremony Monday morning, the new board, consisting of incumbent Wayne Nothstein and newly elected Rocky Ahner and Chris Lukasevich were sworn into office for four-year terms.
Nothstein was accompanied by his wife, Donna; Ahner was accompanied by his wife, Connie; and Lukasevich was accompanied by his wife, Maggie, and mother, Edith, as they took their oaths in front of President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.
Following their swearing-in, the commissioners addressed the filled courtroom.
Nothstein thanked the voters for supporting him, and spoke about the future.
“I look forward to the next four years,” he said. “We will see a lot of changes. ... It’s going to be a long, hard road. We’ve got a lot of work to do, but through communication, cooperation and coordination ... we can make this work and we can make Carbon County a better place to live.”
Lukasevich also thanked his supporters and said he is gladly taking on the burden of responsibility of this position to work together with his colleagues to meet the challenge to make Carbon County a more fiscally responsible and efficient county.
He spoke about making sure the employees are fully trained, and working together as a board of commissioners to move the county forward.
“This is an honor and privilege,” Ahner said, noting that he is humbled for the chance to serve as commissioner.
He thanked his supporters and wife for helping him get to where he is today.
Later that day, the commissioners held their reorganization meeting.
Nothstein, in a 2-1 vote with Lukasevich voting against the motion, will again serve as the chairman of the board for the next four years, while Ahner will serve as the vice chairman.
Attorney Daniel Miscavige, in a 2-1 vote with Lukasevich casting the sole no vote, was reappointed county solicitor; and Eloise Ahner was again reappointed as county administrator/chief clerk.
