Walnutport to run under same leadership

Published January 09. 2020 12:12PM

Walnutport will continue to run under the same leadership in 2020.

As part of its reorganization on Monday, borough council held a moment of silence in memory of Councilwoman Joan Rehrig, who passed away on Jan. 2.

Council retained William Turk as its president and Jennifer Wentz as vice president.

Wentz was approved as vice president on a 5-1 vote, with Councilwoman Patrice Hunsicker opposed.

At the onset of the meeting, Mayor Wayne Weidner swore in Councilmen Harold Greene, David Stankovic and Michael Gaston.

Afterward, council agreed to advertise a new workshop meeting date so that it can appoint a person to fill the vacant seat brought on by the passing of Rehrig.

Rehrig, 77, served on council for about 30 years, and was heavily involved in her community.

Council agreed to advertise the new workshop meeting date for 7 p.m. Jan. 30, instead of Feb. 6, so that council can appoint a person to fill the vacancy.

Other appointments that were approved included:

• Spotts, Stevens and McCoy, engineer

• Corriere & Andres Esquire, solicitor

• Scott Ledo, code enforcement officer

• Sean Corey, zoning and building code officer.

• Michael Wentz, grant coordinator

• Anthony Rosencrance, three-year term to the zoning hearing board
