NL receives Teacher in the Workplace Grant
Connecting classrooms with businesses.
At least, that’s at the heart of a Teacher in the Workplace Grant that’s been awarded to Northern Lehigh School District.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tania Stoker informed the school board on Monday that the district received the $25,000 grant.
Stoker said the district will utilize the grant for district teachers to visit local businesses in the Lehigh Valley and use what they learn as real world examples in their classrooms.
She added that teachers who participate will be building a database of career information to share with their colleagues and students.
Stoker said students will then be taking field trips to businesses to explore what they have to offer.
Money from the grant will also be used for the district’s middle school Career Caravan and high school Career Fair, she said.
Superintendent Matthew J. Link praised Stoker for her efforts to secure the grant, which he said is “pretty remarkable” considering the district was among two or three districts in the Lehigh Valley, and one of about 90 of the 500 districts in the state to receive the grant.
The Teacher in the Workplace program provides the opportunity for eligible organizations in partnership with their Local Workforce Development Board to develop and/or implement Teacher in the Workplace programs that connect the classroom to the workplace for K-postsecondary educators in Pennsylvania.
