January 28, 1955 — Tamaqua’s balanced scoring attack leads to a 67-58 victory over Coaldale in the first round of the Black Diamond League first half playoffs. Four Blue Raiders finish in double-figure scoring, with Durbin Wagner leading the way with 16 points. The winners, who use a 20-10 run that stretches late in the second quarter into the third frame to grab a 12-point lead, also receive 14 points from Dave Evans. Luther Miller and Johnny Angelo both contribute 12 points, while Joe Bridickas chips in with eight. The Tigers’ Bob Plocinik ends with a game-high 21 points.
