Carbon County court

A Schuylkill County woman pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Tuesday to a drug dealing charge.

She was one of eight defendants facing drug-related charges to enter a guilty plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass during morning and afternoon sessions of court.

Task force

Nicole Savage, 30, of Coaldale, pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, heroin.

She was arrested as part of an ongoing drug investigation by the county drug task force including Lehighton police. Police learned that Savage was going to come into possession of illegal substances. Following a vehicle stop, the police report indicates 10 bricks of drugs were found. Initially the drug was listed as fentanyl, but a plea bargain listed the drug as heroin. A confidential informant was used in the investigation.

Savage is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges.

Sentencing was deferred and a presentence investigation report will be prepared by the adult probation office.

Other pleas

Gary Glenn Sharp, 44, of Wilkes-Barre, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to prevent a catastrophe.

He was arrested by Lehighton police on Jan. 19, 2019. Police responded to a residence along North Third Street to a report of a suspicious activity. On scene police found Sharp on the porch at the home. He left the scene, but at the time he was using a grill on the porch that eventually caused a fire damaging the property.

He admitted to a drug addiction problem but has gone through an inpatient rehab program run by the Salvation Army for six months and continues regular counseling.

Serfass placed him on probation for a year on each count, running concurrently, and ordered he supply a DNA sample and render a total of 100 hours of community service.

David Delbert Smith, 37, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance, heroin.

He was arrested on April 14, 2019, by state police at Lehighton at the intersection of Bridge and White streets in Weissport.

Sentencing was deferred and the adult probation office was ordered to prepare a presentence investigation report.

Tammy M. Christman, 51, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance, crystal methamphetamine.

She was arrested on Nov. 21, 2018, by Jim Thorpe police at the courthouse. She appeared at the probation office and was found in possession of the illegal substances.

She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

Trisa Brownmiller, 31, of West Hazleton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was arrested on Oct. 26, 2017, by Mahoning Township police along North First Street. Police responded to a report of a 1-year-old child outside, wandering around wearing only a diaper. Police were called to the scene by Children & Youth officers. In exchange for the plea, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child were dropped.

Serfass sentenced her to time-served (eight days) to 12 months and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.

Richard J. Hartman, 44, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on Sept. 30, 2019, by Jim Thorpe police along Cedar Avenue. Police responded to the area to assist county sheriff deputies in serving a warrant.

Hartman is currently an inmate in the county prison serving a four-month term for a probation violation.

Serfass placed him on probation for a year, consecutive to his current sentence, and ordered him to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, and when paroled, render 50 hours of community service.

Daniel Melvin Walderon, 37, of Weissport, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on May 18, 2019, by state police at Lehighton along White Street in Weissport when troopers responded to a report of drug activity in the area. Walderon was found at the scene.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

Chris Childs, 21, of Kunkletown, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana.

He was arrested on March 21, 2019, by state police at Fern Ridge at a residence along Stony Mountain Road in Penn Forest Township. Troopers went to the residence to serve a warrant on another individual and found Childs on scene with the marijuana.

Serfass imposed a fine of $300.

Each defendant sentenced was also ordered to pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
