Amphitheater coming to Victory Park
An amphitheater could be installed at Victory Park in Slatington by summer.
The Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority has been able to secure additional funding in the amount of $30,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for the amphitheater.
Lindsay Taylor, executive director, said the funding “gives us a little more flexibility.”
“We’re now in design phase,” Taylor said. “We should be receiving preliminary plans very shortly from Lehigh Engineering.”
Taylor said the cost of the amphitheater is $150,000 in grant funds, and that the match for grant funds is donations.
“It’s all accounted for,” she said. “It will give the entire park a jolt in the arm for the community.”
Taylor said once the amphitheater is in place, she can foresee it being used by the Performing Arts for adults, children, and teens; as well as programming opportunities for festivals, movies or concerts.
“It’s endless what you could do,” she said. “It will really bring the community back to the park.”
Taylor said the goal is to have the amphitheater in place by the Fourth of July, or if not, sometime this summer.
“Just really anxious for it to be done; the community’s been waiting for a long time,” she said. “We want to make it happen this year.”
