A whirlwind romance
You're never too old to fall in love. Just ask Betty Lamb, 84, and George Bolinsky, 89, who met in their golden years at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, and were married just before Valentine's Day.
Betty moved into Heritage Hill last March. She has a very active social life and loves to play bingo. She's always out and about in the community, connecting with friends and participating in the many activities Heritage Hill offers.
George came to Heritage Hill in October. When he met Betty, he wanted to get to know her better. Their friendship blossomed into something a little more, and they were always seen together, walking around the community, conversing.
The community of seniors began to buzz about George and Betty and whether or not they were a couple and if they were engaged. The two of them had conversations about marriage privately, but they kept it quiet in public.
That is until January.
After a whirlwind romance of just three months, George and Betty went to a local jeweler, and right there in the store, George proposed.
George and Betty said "I do" on Feb. 13 in front of their family and friends at Heritage Hill.
State Sen. Mario Scavello, a friend of the groom's, performed the ceremony. George's nephew served as best man. Betty's daughter was the maid of honor, while her son walked her down the aisle. The job of the ring bearers went to two little family dogs.
"We have always thought about how wonderful it would be to have a wedding here at Heritage Hill, so much so that we held a 'mock' wedding years ago so our residents could experience the joy of the traditions," said Denise Langman, executive director. "Watching this unfold before our eyes has been an absolute joy."
After the ceremony, to celebrate their new life together, there was a reception with hors d'oeuvres and dancing. George and Betty also did the traditional bouquet toss and garter removal. The cake, flowers and decorations colored the room in Betty's choice of cream and sage with white roses.
The newlyweds enjoyed a two-night stay at the Pocono Paradise Streams for their honeymoon.
They enjoyed all the romantic amenities, including a heart-shaped bed, Champagne glass Jacuzzi, and a couples' massage.
Betty said she has never felt so spoiled or has ever experienced such a romantic environment.
George said he wants another honeymoon, to which Betty replied, "I hope it's with me, because I haven't had enough of you yet!"
Their Heritage Hill family is delighted.
"Betty and George are like your first true love: sweet, adoring, they have become one in the same. They truly enjoy each other's companionship," said Langman.
"Congratulations to our very special couple, Mr. and Mrs. George Bolinsky. As our saying here at Heritage Hill goes, our residents are 'embracing life and possibilities at every age.'"
The happy couple is quickly settling into their old routines at Heritage Hill. They have joined another married couple for their daily meals, participate in exercise classes and have started taking short walks outside in the nice weather.
"Life is wonderful the second time around," said George. "No one should ever be by themselves, especially if they find a beauty like Betty."
"It has been such a wonderful, exciting experience. I'm still on Cloud Nine," said Betty.
