Valentine's Day is big business
According to research by Hallmark, the greeting card manufacturer, more than half of the U.S. population celebrates Valentine's Day by purchasing a greeting card.
Over 50 percent of all Valentine's Day cards are purchased in the six days before the holiday.
In total, 141 million Valentine's Day cards are exchanged annually, making Valentine's Day the second-most popular greeting-card-giving occasion.
And this total doesn't include packaged valentines intended for exchange in school classrooms.
Those who celebrate Valentine's Day by increasing their calorie count will be interested in knowing that more than 40,000 Americans are employed at chocolate companies.
