Tamaqua talent nominated for theater awards
Three individual members and three productions of the Tamaqua Area Community Theatre have been nominated for the 2015 Season Northeastern Pennsylvania Theatrical Alliance Awards. The awards will be announced Saturday at Ehrhardt's Waterfront Resort in Lake Wallenpaupack.
The local theater group has two nominations in the Best Family Show category - "CSI Neverland" and "Pinoccchio."
"Pinocchio" is also nominated in the Best Youth Show category.
Individual nominees include: Best Youth Actor 12 and Under: Nicholas Surotchak for his portrayal of Pinocchio; Best Supporting Actor in a Drama: Bobby Maso for his work as Biff Loman in "Death of a Salesman"; and best Supporting Actress in a Comedy: Chanita Guerrero as Penelope Moppins in "CSI: Neverland."
NEPTA is an alliance of community theaters spanning eight counties in Northeast Pennsylvania. Currently, the alliance has 10 member theater groups. In addition to Tamaqua, the groups represent Hazleton, Scranton, Milford, Lakeville, Wilkes-Barre, Swoyersville, Cresco and Shawnee On the Delaware.
The goal is to "work together to promote and produce community theater and quality entertainment throughout the region of Northeastern PA."
The Tamaqua Area Community Theatre presents its productions at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. in Tamaqua. The group is currently working on a production of "Cinderella - Retold as a Musical," which will be presented May 20-21.
