Prothonotary's report
A total of 241 cases were started in January in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 30; custody complaints, 20; complaints to modify custody, 11; district justice appeal, 1; divorce complaints, 19; license appeals, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 27; complaint in partition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 22; quiet title action, 1; auditor/financial reports, 2; court appointments, 7; judgments, 62; and writs of executions, 36. The office also processed 115 passport applications.
Behrens' financial report shows $26,982.15 last month was generated as follows:
Prothonotary's fees, $23,159.65; interest income, $5; custody fees, $600; data processing fees, $3,091.90; PFA surcharge, courts, $50.60; PFA surcharge, Sheriff, $75; and remote access fees, $1,200.
The prothonotary remitted $4,278.16 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $64 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $720 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
