Tamaqua woman cited for DUI

Published February 08. 2016 04:00PM

Tamaqua Police have cited Tabatha Marie Murphy, 26, of 339 Hazle St., Tamaqua, after an incident on Jan. 24.

Officers were on patrol at 2:13 a.m. when they stopped to speak to a man in the 200 block of Market Street. As the conversation continued, a blue 2002 Saturn went past, with the driver failing to stop for a sign at Market and Willing Street. After making a right turn onto East Union Street, the Saturn was driven into a snowbank.

The female driver, Murphy, tried to reverse out of the bank but then stopped. When asked about drinking, she said she had three shots of alcohol and offered a Walmart receipt as proof.

She was given, and failed, field sobriety tests, then refused to submit to a blood test.

The Saturn was towed and Murphy was given a ride to 242 N. Columbia St.

She was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to stop at a posted sign.
